This special release is the result of the collaboration with the Los Angeles brand Born x Raised founded by Spanto and 2Tone. The two creatives behind BXR were raised in the “old” Venice, where kids could feel a sense of belonging by partaking in creative, and sometimes illegal and dangerous, activities. When the police arrived with the intention to make the area friendlier for visitors and new buyers, they took away all the things that used to bring the residents together in community. That’s when Born x Raised was born.
The brand and its pieces want to remind everyone of the origins of Venice, of what once was. Unfortunately, Spanto lost his battle against cancer, but 2Tone keeps going in the name of their mission.
The Dunk Low BXR brings the typography, colors and personality of LA street culture into its design. The deep royal/white colorway is inspired by the city’s colors, which are contrasted by pops of pink and custom artwork inspired by bandana patterns. The tagline “On The Turf” is present on the tongue and on the heel, while the phrase “One Block at a Time” is embroidered on the suede panel which covers the toe box at the front.
